Ana Sikhashvili

 

My name is Ana Sikhashvili. I am 15 years old from Tbilisi. I became completely blind when I was five years old. After that I started attending the school for the blind; this was the beginning of a fantastic life.

 

I am very satisfied, as I have already reached many of my goals. For example, I am going to the USA as an exchange student (FLEX Program) in July. However, I have a life goal – to make Georgian Society familiar with blind persons to the extent that we are not made to feel that we are strangers or need their pity. I am fed up with this kind of attitude. I often hear people say, "Disabilities do not exist.” This is the silliest statement I have ever heard! Disabilities do exist, but they never create such a big barrier as to be impossible to overcome.
